I hope that you all are having an awesome festive season! That santa brought you what you wanted and that shizz. Chil-laxin and gettin ready to party for 2008
A few of you have hollaaaa’d at me about the workshops. Some amazing ideas – keep at it. Just write them down, it’s all good.

- I’ve nearly finished the booklet in terms of what I can do without the rest of the Workshop details. Of course it’s not necessary that you have to make a workshop
you can just help someone do their w/s. But the more ideas, all the better!
I’m playing around with designs and fonts and such for the booklet.

-You can see a small product of idea playing on our blog http://streetform.wordpress.com
It’s worth checkin’ the blog out every now and again because I put links and ideas on there. It’s our platform, so use it ;o)
Remember to sign in: go to www.wordpress.com Username: ***********  Password: ***** see emails..
If any of you have a kool design template/idea- definately feel free to holla it at us.

-If any of you have too much sparetime and fancy abit of reading – i’d appericate someone looking over and editing my dramatically bad grammar/
taking out my “art theory” peppered chat essays for my application for the MoMA, NY. for a summer internship. Deadlines postmarked by the 7th Jan 08. Drop me
an email and i’ll send them you. 3 “essays”all 1 page long each.

Again, hope you’re having an amazing time, here are 2 examples of workshops that we can offer. How you can write about your workshop 2 send 2 me A-SAP.

Last meeting next steps yo

December 21, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hey guys!

So last week a few of us that could meet up, did and this is what we discussed.
People present were: Nat; Greg; Myself and Rebecca. Alot of you were in London, and had presentation shizzle to do!

Some food for thought!
Rebecca has done a write up of what Breakout is all about. I’m sure she’ll send us all a copy over xmas for those who didn’t get 1; if not – i’m going to be making a a booklet over xmas.
A booklet to send out to schools, with what we are about; the future plans [charitable status* then funding for a gallery]- what this hopes to create[ learning better for kids; their community; raise aspirations ect] and what workshops there are to offer [ what the workshops entitles; the facilities the school needs; age group specific; time frame; what skills they learn e.c.t.].

Which leads me on to my next thing.
Because I’m making the booklet over xmas – I need your workshop ideas. answering the above questions in your brief.
Just can be about 3 sentences long summary. Won’t take you much longer than 20 minutes!
- what is it?
- skills you think the kids will get
- facilities needed ( example film editing – they need primier pro or final cut/computers]
- age group – [can't get 10 year olds editing or 17 year olds colouring in pictures]
- time frame – how long will your workshop take?? 1 hour – 2 days?
So we know what we have, where we can go – what we need to get. Remember Feburary isn’t far at all!
Plus this means you have something physical to take to your assessments. (if you want to of course!)

*Charitable Status*
* I had a tutorial with Michael Corris the other week about something different, I brought up StreetForm and Breakout. He gave me some cool advice, that I didn’t ask for. He reckons we should get intouch with Site Gallery - Karen something – and she’ll take us ,” under her wing” (not my saying) and that will help us apply for charitable status and the loads of funding! and then ultimately a gallery. Maybe even an office above the gallery? Maybe not. We can also get in on the ” Education programs” at the Site Gallery – because just as I have predicted – education is getting shit-hot in the Artworld now!
I propose that we get intouch with her after we know what we are truely doing; got the booklet sorted and know where are weaknesses lie and such. What do you think?
The booklet we need also, so Rebecca can give it to Hallam Volunteers to see if we can use them to get funding/ support for the CRB checks and other things  without registering as a charitable company.

- Other people to get intouch with: http://www.civictrust.org.uk/
/////// Sheffield City Council do a special thing called: SAE [Sheffield Arts Education] http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/education/services-to-schools/sheffield-arts-education
I’m going to be getting intouch with them; maybe get a rep to come to one of our meetings?

Mel Pearson, Head of Education for Sheffield??

////////////////// http://www.eventus.org.uk/index.php?page=Home  Eventus is a cultural planning and development agency that uses creativity as a catalyst for change.

We believe that investment in the creative potential of people is the key to successful and sustainable regeneration.

Maybe ask Yorkshire Arts Council for morepeople who could get involved/ ask for more advice.

Anymore??

- Can anyone make websites? Or the know how? We could use the website as a focal advertising point. Teachers can download learning resources and such after we’ve done  our thing.

- Education and arts symposium.

Rebecca reckons that Hester thinks that holding an “education + arts symposium” would raise the profile + be inspiring. Some artists we’re thinking about inviting are [these are

obviously subject to change] Phil Coy (working with kids and their environment) ; Becky Shaw; Nigel Cook; Michael Corris ;o); Fench-something (those who did exhibition theory

and practice) and the person incharge of educational projects at Site. Anymore/ better people you can think of who would be accessible just bring to the meeting.

- NEXT MEETING – We’re thinking 21st January 2008. After all the assessments. call it 12:00 C302 . Holla back at me if you think thats alright/

And that’s all we gots!

So in summary – What you need to do – and the sooner the better!

IS

Send me your Ideas for the workshops – If you’re not 100% sure what you’re doing just send me your ideas and I can blag it for you. So we have a great starting point when we  meet up again in Jan!!

ALSO think about contacts  + artists to be involved -  and whats our next step forward. Invite more people who are interested.

FIRST GIGS ARE IN FEB 2008. 2 SCHOOLS. We need to be prepared. These are our ball rolling thing.

//////////////////Remember the blog – we can use that as an idea platform -

go to www.wordpress.com

username:  and password: in your email box

and most importantly, have an AMAZING FESTIVE HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEARS!! look forward to hearing/ see about your workshops and meeting up again in 2008!

Take care, chil-lax party hard and stay safe.

Best,

Smizz :o )

Wh-what-what you all about?

STREETFORM + BREAKTHROUGH

The plan- so far! [Breakthrough is slightly different to this layout. Breakthroughs proper and full brief will be up soon but till then it's pretty much give and take the same as streetform!]
////////////////////////////////// HERE’S THE MILLION DOLLAR IDEA
Or million dollar nonprofit idea.

:::::: BACKGROUND ::::::
StreetForm+ Breakthrough is an Organisation in it’s early days. It is primarily concerned with engaging children of ages 14-17, and teachers, in the built environment by promoting Contemporary Arts* in Schools that are situated in deprived areas. A group of dedicated practising artists [art students] set up workshops that are fun, interactive and make Art and Design in schools more desirable to kids, in hope that it might make them more focused, learn about interaction with their area and hopefully encourage them to study it further. (Hopefully get under the belt of AIM HIGHER) These events will happen next year. Visual representation and evaluation of work is particularly important in Schools. Once every half term a meeting with several schools takes place. These schools have to be in the South Yorkshire area.
* = Contemporary arts focuses on anything from Street Art, Architecture, Neo Formalism to illustration , photography and film.

::::::: AIMS ::::::::
An event targeting Young people around the age of 14-17 in school, which also engages the wider community, which not only introduces Contemporary Arts through Art and Design, but also through Citizenship and wider learning.
There is a lack of general knowledge of how enriching Contemporary Art can be and some community groups are becoming excluded entirely. By using the built environment as a tool to bridge different community groups, links can be made. Not only this, can build self-esteem; build enthusiasm for school; life skills such as self analysing amongst many others.

It’s hard for people to know HOW to contribute as they don’t have the right vocabulary. In Italy pre-school children are taught about their town and how to respond to buildings and in France, children are taught that art-like subjects are first and foremost – creating an actively political diverse and culturally rich country.
Sheffield has a changing population. More babies are being born and more people from other places are settling. A sense of community needs to be established. This could be through history (steel) and a feeling of pride and belonging. Perceptions of the places where people are living at present and their future ideas and ambitions can be limited and nervous.

:::::::: AWARENESS ::::::::
Is the main issue. STREETFORM + BREAKTHROUGH  are not  conservation organisations, it is looking forward to the future and encouraging engagement, communication and improvement. “A European City of Distinction:” is this irrelevant to a young person? A young people’s perception of beauty can be acute, but they need to learn the vocab and ideas to be able to communicate this. Heritage and history are important, but right now is more important and their future. Contemporary art is paving society. You can do almost anything with contemporary arts – be an animator, a film maker, publish a magazine, paint, design or teach. This needs to be communicated. Interest is through experience and engagement. Graffiti isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Etc.

::::::::: ACTIONS ::::::::::
Schools Workshops as part of a planned program due to be introduced in schools AT LEAST by summer 2008, which aim to:
1 Educate young people about Contemporary Arts using their built environment as a focal point of inspiration/grounding point.
2 Allow young people to understand the their society, their city, and most importantly their ideas and talk about it
3 Create a network to allow them to communicate.
A web site could be set up as an interactive teaching aid for schools, which combines all available resources and could be continually updated.
The Environment Agency web site is a good example. Community groups could maintain the site themselves. A framework for citywide events could be incorporated, with a particular agenda for sustainable development (both the environmental and the social aspects)

SOME EXAMPLES OF WORKSHOPS-
>>>>>>>>>>> STREET ART WORKSHOP:
Teaches young people how to use their ideas, think creatively. Learn this history and its context. The skills used in this relate to how they can think of their built environment; to be able to believe in themselves and their own skills. Will use the pieces of artwork as the first exhibition at URBECT gallery.
>>>>>>>>>>> ABSTRACT WATERCOLOUR
Teaches them to be able to create a piece of contemporary looking artwork that looks professional. Its enjoyable – will teach them how to manipulate certain factors. Have to do an abstraction of the built environment.

>>>>GOALS:
Long term: Will this lead to be able to try and get funding for URBECT GALLERY in Sheffield? What identity is left behind?
Web site needs to be dynamic and user friendly so that everything posted on the web site takes on a life of its own.

OVER ALL STREETFORM AIMS are:
To reach a certain amount of people.
Focal point on education with an identity and or web site
A feeling of Pride for all generations – for everyone.

///////// Community Aims: ///////
Awareness and education.
Diversity and Process (the ‘live’ element) and future career prospects.
