Hey All!

I would like to firstly say thank you very much for turning up to our StreetForm and CAaD meeting today, and having an interest in what we are doing. I was definately impressed with the interest from the 1st years. I hope that you stick with us, and encourage more of your friends to join up!

For our new members please join our Facebook group at: http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7104699494
This way, we can keep intouch easier since most people check their Facebook more than email.

Also we have a blog which is: http://artdialogue.wordpress.com
We can use this as our idea platform, or if anything interesting comes up:
Just goto www.wordpress.com
N DO THE DEAD thats with the details inbyour email box

Easy! Don’t be shy!

And you can DOWNLOAD ourBooklet at: http://www.box.net/shared/2ts9o9gook

To use our blog platform, it’s the same thing as CAD’s which is www.wordpress.com

StreetForms next school is one in Denerby but the date isn’t set. They were interested in the end of October though and specifically Graffiti Techniques.
We are hoping for some fresh ideas, and people, and polishing up of last years workshops so if you have some ideas (can be anything!) bringgg it!
When the date is set we will set up a session to go through our workshop so you’re familiar with it.
We also rotate role allocation. So for example, James, shivvers, Nat and myself did the last school. So the next school will be different people (only if you want to do it – we never force anyone to do so).
We are filling for funding, sometime within the next few weeks.

C.A.a.D

Next meeting schedual for 9TH OCTOBER at 1:00pm at room 2009 Harmer, CITY CAMPUS. That’s a Thursday. Please tell me if this is problem for you, espeically time-table wise.

* In the next meeting we will establish role allocation for the ARTS FESTIVAL.
* Brendan will email us all his text of the “Accumlation of Culture” which is the theme that we are rocking with. Please read it, so we can open the platform for ideas, new stratgies and such. Don’t be intimidated. this is a safe group where every idea counts!
* A discussion of spaces, we have the potential of 2 so far.
* Funding ideas
* Time allocation so it doesnt disrupt dissertations + practice
* People to get intouch with.

Please join us for the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham for the ArtMonthly Panel Debate on Art&Education. on the 6th October at 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Train tickets are about 10er return with Young persons railcard. YOu need to make reservations to avoid disappointment : at 0121 248 0708

WE HAVE A SCHOOL!!

April 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yo Hommies,

We’ve been quiet recently, really quiet. I decided that ya know, with Exhibition Theory and Practice our time has been totally constraint.

UNTIL now! Good news has been spread about StreetForm and a school wants us 2 go in and help teach the Graffiti Workshop (boy how schools are changing!)- 4/5 of us is kool. It will be a great opportunity to actually have some hardcore experience and proof of how we work.

It’s in May still organising the date- they want – 1st/2nd May – but I’ve asked for the 7th onwards- so we’re completely free.

BUt great news!!! Its 2 classes of year 5s! In Stainforth – assuming the South Yorkshire one.

This is what we’ve been waiting for!! Lets hold a meeting on Thursday 10th April  2 prepare and get details and sort out who wants 2 do it, and who can who cant etc.  at 12:00  level 4, normal place!

Hope you guys have had a great easter and great exhibitions!

much love

Greetings from the Break.Out Founder Extrodinaire (aka Rebecca)

Hi Guys and Dolls

I finally figured out how to post on this blog, for all those who havent you go to the wordpress main page and lod in with the username Smizz sent us.

I have also knocked together something that we can mail out to guest speakers that will hopefully spark some discussion (I know that i just mentioned one of the Qs to Hester and she nearly flew into a rant so Im feeling optimistic of a interesting symposium).

Let me know what everyone thinks and feel free to add, subtract or fiddle with it.

“Not with MY tax money”

A Symposium on Art, Education and the Community Spirit

Questions we want answers to…

Can we be welcome in a community?

Does artistic ability rely on a separation from the wants and demands of the crowd? If we offer up our gifts do we risk getting ripped to shreds? Is our soul forfeit?

Can we gain back more than we give? In societies where the driving force is commodification, where everyone is asking for the price, can artists be generous?

Can education be a gift?

Can art be a right?

Must we teach what they want to learn or what they need to know or what we want to teach? And who decides what those all are? And are they all separate or just one lesson from different sides?

Maybe we should have stayed in our ivory towers.

Art > A drain on public funds?

luv ya all!!

Big ass memo.

January 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Word up StreetOutterz

So last week on the 22nd of Jan. A couple of people turned up… instead of classing it off as a bad day job, what we did instead is plan our next steps.

  • James is going to create an image of what we would like our website to look like. So then we can pass on the image 2 anyone who you think might know would like to build us a website for free? to put in their portfolio.. or cuz they have nothing elsebetter to do// like to make websites?
  • We practiced some of the workshops 10-4pm on Wednesday 23rd. I think it was a great exercise. We did all of Brendan’s, which were the ” Hiedegger’s Apple” for 14-18 year olds, “The team work specific” for 12-16 year olds and the “modern art” workshop. we also did my graffiti one as we had some sparetime to kill. This was a great experience because it showed us where the gaps we  never considered – lay. and Madaleine – previous teacher gave us some good constructive feedback.
  • Paulette Johnson got back to me, she says if I send her more info about “streeout” then she’ll ask the teachers in the Barnsley school if they are interested in doing some of our workshops, instead of us helping out with just the teachers workshops. But I’m  easy either way, you know all experience is good experience…. and 8 pound an hour is good goin’! better than working in a call centre for that amount of money. :o P

  • We are trying to raise some money to get some advertising stuff printed and some printed booklets. to send out. ANY IDEAS? So far we are going to do YANK PANK (american pancakes) on the 5th Feb [pancake day] and smoothies  and then later on in the month…. A Murder Mystery lol… should be pretty fun? Also doing Sheffield [20]08 film showing so if any of you guys do film – defo put your work in. no theme… just experiemental stuff really. brendan and I have start a collaborative effort. So far we have a great existential film . SO BRING IDEAS TO THE NEXT MEETING.

  • Richie is going to make a “hitlist” of schools- addresses and numbers in the South Yorkshire area.
  • We’re going to get intouch with the 2 schools this week 2 set up an OFFICIAL DATE. we schedualed in the 14th + 15th  feb, but of course this is subject to avilability and change.
  • Going to ring Jeneral Publishing for printing Quotes – ask for discount ;o), Sheffield Arts Education and South yorkshire  Funding Bureau.- GOAL TO DO THIS WEEK.
  • MaRK Purcell recommended some one who works in Graphic design called “Sue Smart?” I could be wrong. Anyways, he said he’ll ask her to come and meet with us sometime real soon because she did something similiar to this 5 years ago, like she ran a whole organisation for the country., She can definately give us some shit hot advice I reckon.
  • After the first 2/3 schools we will start to get intouch with Carol Maund at SITE – (i got her name wrong the first time…I’m sensing a pattern here lol) but we decided not to get intouch till we have some hardcore evidence that we are rolling and it’s not just a very nice idea.
  • NEXT MEETING IS TOMORROW!!! I KNOW. I’m shit  – It’s because on Wednesday evening I went to NYC and forgot my diary so I couldn’t even send a quick email. Not to sound like a lecturer here, but you all should be in the studio’s anyways.

SO THURSDAY 31ST JAN 2008 AT 12:00 OUTSIDE C302 (we’ll find a better place after we meet up).

Things to discuss -

- – RINGING UP SCHOOLS…

-  Feedback of the workshops….

– correct my bad grammar in the booklet….

– schedual next workshop practise…..

–next steps

- – YANK PANK day + other fund raising ideas

So yeah, oh and Contemporary Art as Dialogue meeting is after the Showroom Transmission meet in the Showroom. at 6.

Hope you all are doing good.
take care
hopefully see ya 2moz! sorry for the real bad quick notice
Much love
Smizzzzzzle fo’ shizzle.
